"un-armed" officers in uniform...

I remember the school days where first day of vacation used to begin, but the same excitement was there on the first day of re-opening of the school. As report card used to upgrade me to another level of education, say from 7th standard to 8th standard, my excitement used to be there in getting new compassbox, new bag, new books with fresh smell, new pencils and rubbers and pens and all kinds of accessories, and most importantly new "uniforms". Aah, those new uniforms used to be excitement. Even today, the uniform and the people in uniforms have always fascinated me. Be it of security guard uniform or hospital white uniforms or courts black coats, or for that matter the restaurants having their uniform savvy servers or be it Army-Navy-Air force officers in their uniforms. They carry their pride and their responsibilities on their shoulders.

Recently, while taking breakfast in one of the premier hotels in Nagpur during my solo trip (self enjoys luxury.hehe), I came through a group of around 20 army officers senior ranked officers which was in full uniform at 7.45 am for their breakfast table and all were so happy and jovially enjoying their breakfast. Being an observer, I learn by observing and again my fascination was on top level. I was so fascinated to see all in their uniforms with the shine on their medals, their shoes, their eyes and their smiles. Aah, I still remember one such officer smiling at me and I smiling back at him. As if I gracefully thanked him for secretly saving us and making us peaceful. I wanted to talk to him, but was little scared as to how to approach anyone during their breakfast time.

I felt as if I am also punctual when I went to take breakfast next day on around same time and the officers were also taking breakfast. Have you ever noticed, when being in same hotel, we generally greet hi hello to one who sees us and that too during breakfast time. Same way, my day two breakfast time started with eyes gazing for that one officer who had smiled at me, but i could not find. While searching for him, I could notice that all officers were sitting on different tables  in a group of two or four and cracking jokes about their training episode or pulling leg of one officer who used to get late by two minutes in breakfast table etc. I was simply wondering that all men in uniform are human beings. Like us, they also have a life and they also have their joyous moments. I was also thinking that how these faces reacts when they have to save a whole region or community from external disturbances. These men with their arms would look exactly different and difficult to interact with . I was simply amazed to see them in full uniform during the first hours of the day and kept on thinking that all schools should have military training for a year or two to make a human being - a disciplined soul.

While I was leaving the breakfast area, that officer entered and he again smiled. His eyes too smiled. and I just could not resist saying excuse me. I was so thrilled to talk to him. He was most senior officer Col. Gireesh Singh and I was like almost in tears talking to him. He was in full uniform with the cap and I said thank you for being our secret saviours. I saluted him and I said, i was happy to see army unarmed with weapons and armed with smiles and joy in their heart.
